So many women tell me their skin seemed to change almost overnight in their forties or fifties. Drier, less comfortable, and somehow not quite their own. If that sounds like you, you're not imagining it, and you're certainly not alone.
Menopause can change so much at once, and I'd love to help you feel comfortable in your skin again. Our treatments are designed for the changes you see and feel in your skin and body.
What changes, and why
During perimenopause and menopause, falling oestrogen can leave skin drier, thinner and less firm. You might notice your skin feels tighter or more sensitive, looks duller or shows lines more readily. Products you've used for years may suddenly not feel right. Changes can show up elsewhere too: in the shape of your tummy, and in your pelvic floor.
Hydration and skin quality
Skin boosters are often where our practitioners start. Profhilo spreads beneath the skin with a high concentration of hyaluronic acid and is designed to stimulate collagen and elastin, for better hydration and firmness. Most people have two treatments four weeks apart, then maintenance around every six months, and results build over four to eight weeks.
Polynucleotides are designed to support the skin's own repair, and are often chosen for delicate, crepey areas such as under the eyes and the neck. A course is usually three to four treatments, two to four weeks apart. Both are available at all four of our clinics.
Not sure which treatment is right for you?
Answer five quick questions and we will suggest where to start, at the clinic nearest you.
Facials for comfort
Sometimes skin just needs comfort. Our Menopause Facial, part of our Signature Facials menu at Chichester, Petersfield and Bognor Regis, is made for skin that feels drier or less comfortable than it used to, with soothing, hydrating steps. It's a lovely, gentle place to begin, and an hour that is all about you.
Your home routine matters too. Your practitioner can suggest hydrating products that suit your skin as it is now.
Changes around the middle
Lots of women notice a change in shape around the tummy during and after menopause. The Menopause Tummy Reset is a non-surgical treatment designed to gently recontour and refresh the tummy area. Sessions last around 45 minutes, as a single session or a course of six, at all four of our clinics. It isn't a weight loss treatment, and your first visit includes a consultation to check it suits you.
Pelvic floor strength
The NHS lists problems controlling when you pee among the symptoms of the menopause, and it's one of the changes we can help with. BTL EMSELLA® is a chair-based treatment you sit on fully clothed for around 30 minutes, designed to make the pelvic floor muscles contract thousands of times in a session. A typical course is six sessions, usually twice a week, at our Chichester clinic.
It isn't suitable if you have metal or electronic implants, such as a pacemaker, joint replacement or copper coil.
Before you book
Every treatment starts with a consultation, where your practitioner asks about your health, medical history and any medicines. Please tell us about any medical conditions, implants or recent surgery. We'll ask you to wait if you're pregnant or breastfeeding, unwell, or have an infection in the treatment area.
If you'd like support beyond the treatment room, The Women's Wellbeing Group runs Menopause Mondays, a programme of education and conversation for women going through perimenopause and menopause. You don't have to work this out on your own.
Questions clients ask
Can these treatments help with menopause symptoms?
Yes, with many of the changes you see and feel. Skin that has become drier, thinner or less comfortable, changes to your tummy shape, and a weaker pelvic floor, including leaks when you laugh, cough or exercise, are all things our treatments are designed to help with. For intimate comfort, such as dryness, some women find BTL EMFEMME 360® helps too. Your consultation is free, and we'll talk you through what would help you most.
Which treatment should I start with?
It depends on what bothers you most. For many women, a skin booster or a hydrating facial is a comfortable first step. Your consultation will help you decide, and results vary from person to person.
Do I need to have been through menopause to have the Menopause Tummy Reset?
No. It's designed for women noticing changes around the middle during or after menopause, and your consultation checks whether it's right for you.
