Sofwave™ is a needle-free ultrasound treatment for the face, neck and selected body areas, available at our Chichester clinic. Its SUPERB™ technology, short for Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam, warms the mid-dermis at a depth of 1.5 mm while the Sofcool™ system cools the surface of the skin. This controlled heat is designed to prompt new collagen and elastin, so skin can look firmer and smoother in the months that follow. In the US, the FDA has cleared Sofwave to improve facial lines and wrinkles, lift the eyebrow and lift lax tissue beneath the chin and on the neck. For the face and neck, a single treatment is usually recommended, with results building over around 12 weeks. Every treatment begins with a consultation, and results vary from person to person.
Ultrasound, placed at a precise depth
Sofwave uses ultrasound energy rather than needles or light. It warms a specific layer of the skin, the mid-dermis, where collagen and elastin are made, and the skin renews that support over the weeks that follow.
SUPERB™ ultrasound
Synchronous Ultrasound Parallel Beam technology fires a row of ultrasound transducers at the same time. Each pulse creates controlled, cylindrical zones of heat that lie parallel to the skin's surface, so a broad area is treated with every pulse.
A set depth of 1.5 mm
The heat is centred 1.5 mm below the surface, in the mid-dermis. Sofwave is designed to stay above the fat layer, which typically begins at around 3 mm, so it works on the skin's structure and is not designed to reduce fat.
Sofcool™ integrated cooling
Sofcool cools the skin's surface and monitors its temperature in real time throughout treatment. It is designed to protect the outer layer of skin and help keep you comfortable, and your practitioner can adjust the energy as you go.

Sofwave is designed for fine lines and wrinkles, a lower brow, and loose skin under the chin and on the neck, with selected body areas also available. It is offered at our Chichester clinic, and your practitioner will check it suits you at consultation.
Sofwave after surgery
After an Apex Facelift® with Mr Darryl Coombes, he recommends Sofwave, RF microneedling or SkinPen from six weeks after surgery, to help preserve your results.
The first weeks
Mr Coombes recommends seeing Sharon for gentle lymphatic drainage from seven days after surgery, then weekly until you are happy with how the swelling has settled.

- Treatment day
Arrive 20 minutes early for numbing cream, unless you prefer to numb at home. Appointments take 30 to 75 minutes depending on the areas, and most people go straight back to their day.

Some people notice an early change within a week or two. New collagen builds gradually, and results are usually assessed at around three months.
- Within 12 months
If you had the full face and neck treated, an optional maintenance treatment of the same areas at a reduced price, to help maintain your results.

What to Expect
Preparation
A free consultation is required to assess your skin, goals and suitability. Arrive with clean skin, free from makeup or skincare products. Avoid sun exposure and active skincare ingredients (retinols, acids) for 48 hours beforehand.
Your Treatment
Ultrasound gel is applied to the treatment area. The Sofwave™ handpiece delivers parallel ultrasound beams into the mid-dermis. You will feel warmth and a tingling sensation as the energy is delivered. Treatment typically takes 30-60 minutes depending on the area.
Aftercare
There is no downtime, you can return to normal activities immediately. Some clients notice a mild flush or warmth that settles within hours. Avoid intense heat (saunas, hot baths) for 24 hours. Results continue to develop over 6-12 weeks as new collagen forms.
