Our post-operative care supports you in the weeks before and after cosmetic surgery, including liposuction, fat transfer, tummy tucks, breast augmentation and uplift, and facial surgery such as facelifts and eyelid surgery. It builds on gentle manual lymphatic drainage, and each session can include gentle drainage, tape or dressing changes in line with your surgical team's instructions, scar massage once your wounds have fully healed, and light therapy. It is led by Sharon, who has over 20 years' experience in post-operative care, and every session after surgery is planned around your surgeon's advice and offered only with their agreement.
Aftercare for body, breast and facial surgery
Sharon has over 20 years' experience in post-operative care. She supports clients after facial surgery with Mr Coombes, and after body, breast and facial surgery with other surgeons.
Liposuction and fat transfer
Gentle lymphatic drainage designed to ease swelling and fluid as you heal, working around your incisions and alongside your compression garments.
Tummy tuck
Light drainage around the abdomen, flanks and back, planned around your surgeon's instructions and how your wounds are healing.
Breast augmentation and uplift
Gentle drainage around the chest, underarms and upper body, never over your incisions, with scar massage once your wounds have fully healed.
Facial surgery
Facial and neck lymphatic drainage after a facelift, eyelid surgery, or a brow or lip lift, including surgery with Mr Coombes.

Before surgery
We meet you, talk through your procedure and plan your sessions around your surgery date and your surgeon's advice.
The first weeks
Very gentle lymphatic drainage, with any tape or dressing changes you need, once your surgeon has agreed.
As you heal
Scar massage once your wounds have fully healed, and light therapy or wood therapy only with your surgeon's agreement.
When to call your surgeon
Increasing pain, redness or heat, discharge from a wound, a high temperature, or pain and swelling in one leg. If you cannot reach them, call NHS 111. Call 999 for chest pain, difficulty breathing, coughing up blood, bleeding that will not stop, or feeling very unwell or confused.
Our post-operative care supports, and never replaces, the care and instructions from your surgical team.
Aftercare for facial surgery with Mr Coombes
If you are having an Apex Facelift®, eyelid surgery, or a brow or lip lift with Mr Darryl Coombes, our consultant facial plastic surgeon, your aftercare is planned with our team from the start. Your surgery takes place at Eastergate, and your aftercare sessions can be booked at Chichester, Petersfield or Bognor.
From seven days
Mr Coombes recommends that his patients see Sharon, our post-operative care specialist, from seven days after surgery for gentle facial and neck lymphatic drainage.

Weekly sessions until you are happy with how the swelling has settled, with light movements that work around your incisions, never over them.
From six weeks
After an Apex Facelift®, Mr Coombes recommends RF microneedling, Sofwave or SkinPen from six weeks after surgery, to help preserve your results.

What to Expect
Preparation
Ideally, we meet you before your surgery, so we can plan your sessions around your surgery date and your surgeon's advice. Please bring any aftercare instructions from your surgical team, and tell us about your procedure, how you are healing and any medicines you take, including blood thinners. Please also tell us if you have had a blood clot, or have a heart or kidney condition or an infection, as lymphatic drainage may not be suitable. We only start treatment after surgery once your surgeon has agreed.
Your Treatment
Sessions take about an hour. Your therapist uses very light, slow movements to encourage lymph flow around the treated area, working gently and never over open or healing wounds. Depending on how you are healing, the session can also include scar massage, tape or dressing changes in line with your surgical team's instructions, and light therapy with your surgeon's agreement. If your therapist notices anything that needs checking, such as a wound that looks infected or a painful, swollen leg, they will stop and ask you to contact your surgical team.
Aftercare
The sessions are gentle, and you can go straight home afterwards. Keep wearing your compression garment as your surgeon has advised, drink plenty of water and follow your surgical team's wound care instructions. If you notice increasing pain, redness or heat around a wound, discharge from a wound, a high temperature, or pain and swelling in one leg, contact your surgical team straight away, or call NHS 111 if you cannot reach them. Call 999 if you have chest pain or difficulty breathing, cough up blood, have a wound that will not stop bleeding, or feel very unwell or confused.
